A Spalding Needled TOP-FLITE paper wrapped dimple ball, circa 1935
In stock
Description
A Spalding Needled TOP-FLITE paper wrapped dimple ball, shield shaped silver and blue label.
Good condition, the wrapper has a small hole to its side but the rest is tight, circa 1935.
Made by AG Spalding & Bros, established in Massachusetts in 1876 and London in 1906. They are called ‘Needled’ after an engineer had the idea of injecting water into its core by hypodermic needle, having first vulcanized the cover, to swell it to standard size with high pressure. The internal windings were stretched and gained an extra resilience. Henry Cotton used this ball exclusively in the late 1930s.
