A fine Victorian silver plated golfing inkwell desk set, circa 1898.
A fine Victorian silver plated golfing inkwell desk set comprising a Victorian golfer at the top of his swing mounted on a naturalistic base, a pen tray to front with crossed clubs behind attached to two mesh pattern balls, at each back corner an inkwell in the shape of a mesh pattern ball (lacking glass liners). The deep border with plain and decorated gadrooning, inscription to front side ‘Presented by the employees to W Brown Esq on the occasion of his marriage. As a mark of their esteem & united wishes for his future happiness. March 2nd 1898.’
Fine condition, measures 6 1/2 high x 7 1/5 x 10 1/4 inches, circa 1898.
Tableware accessories, both silver and silver plated, became popular from the 1890s onwards and these would have been expensive items when produced.
